SPECIAL OPEN CALL - The Beat Exhibition

SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE EXTENDED: Sunday 29 September 2024

A unique opportunity for artists to show their work in two different countries, 

at the same time, without having to be physically present.

THE PROJECT

Special open call for a sustainable art project in collaboration with Ashford Visual Artists, UK.

Inspired by the "Within The Limitations" exhibition organised by Lorrain Mailer and Gregory Daines, which was held at Tesco's UK supermarket chain in Willesborough, Kent over the weekend of March 8-10, 2024. The exhibition showcased an intriguing and diverse display of over 700 artworks from 28 countries, all framed within repurposed CD cases.

"The Beat Exhibition" will follow in the same footsteps.

All flat artworks will be placed in repurposed compact disc cases, highlighting the indiscriminate use of plastics that are continually discarded by a society perpetually enticed to purchase new products in the name of progress.

ARTWORKS

• Theme: OPEN or Interpret the word "beat".
• Send up to 4 images for consideration. Show your best work! 
• Artworks can be in any medium, but the artworks must be in DIGITAL FORMAT, meaning that paintings, illustrations, mix-media, sculptures and other formats will have to be scanned or photographed and sent to us. 
• Artists from all nationalities, backgrounds and of all styles are welcome to submit. Collaborations are also welcome.
• The artworks must be SQUARE, the size of a CD cover - 12x12cm (4.72x4.72"). 
• No watermarks (signatures are ok).
• We will print the selected images in Brazil and in the UK

SELECTION PROCESS

All submissions will be reviewed and selected by the curators.

One or two artworks by each artist will be selected.

Please note that the decisions are final and we are unable to offer feedback.

REFUND POLICY

After submitting the form and paying the fee, the artists are taking part in the show. Therefore, there are NO REFUNDS after making the payment.

SALES

Artworks will not be available for sale for this exhibition. 

ABOUT US

Ashford Visual Artists is an artist collective that aims to promote, encourage and enable visual arts by facilitating artists with their time freely given. As an artist-led, voluntary collective it relies solely on donations and sponsorship for its funds. 

Lorrain Mailer is a visual artist based near Ashford. Inspired by the ways in which every day plastic objects can be transformed to produce thought provoking and impactive installations.

Artly Mix is an artist-led, self-funded, and independent arts organisation located in the prestigious Vila Mariana neighbourhood of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
